Across Australia, the 2024 Regional Competitions have been in full swing, showcasing a wealth of talent and passion from competitors nationwide. These competitions are not only about winning but also about empowering skills excellence. By providing a platform for skilled individuals to challenge themselves and push their boundaries, these regional events amplify the importance of vocational expertise and craftsmanship. They bring together communities, industry leaders, and future professionals, reinforcing the value of skills development in shaping Australia’s future. The widespread participation underscores how crucial these competitions are in driving the country's commitment to excellence.
Every two years, over 500 Regional Competitions take place across 34 regions in Australia, challenging the skills and knowledge of more than 4,000 apprentices, trainees, and students. Participants compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals, with the top performers potentially advancing to the national stage.
Western Australia Government has been a cornerstone partner in our journey to the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France. The Skillaroos from Western Australia's have consistently excelled!.
This year, 6 exceptional individuals were supported by Western Australia Government competing across various skill categories. The supported Skillaroos are Antoinette Jackson (Painting and Decorating), Jacob Dixon (Wall and Floor Tiling), Kai Baharthah-King and Lachlan Gelavis (Cyber Security), Lewis Italiano (Cabinetmaking), and Mitchell Rigney (jewellery).
The Western Australia Government also supported competitor Experts, which included Todd Bell (Electrical Installations), Ryan Goggin (3D Digital Game Art), Brendan Hilbert (Graphic Design Technology), Nick Johnston (Cabinetmaking) and Liam Cochran (Wall and Floor Tiling).

We would like to express our gratitude to the generous support from TAFE NSW, the NSW Skillaroos have been able to benefit from comprehensive preparation including expert guidance from industry and past WorldSkills champions and mentors. This support has equipped the NSW Skillaroos with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to represent Australia with excellence.
This year, we are thrilled to have 8 outstanding Skillaroos supported by TAFE NSW competing across a range of disciplines at 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France. The competitors include Neave O'Reily (Health & Social Care), Ethan Everett (Bricklaying), Hannah Gerritsen (Hairdressing), Harry Field (Welding), Jasmine Cecchini (Beauty Therapy), Joseph Cramp (Construction Metal Work), Michael Bowen (Industrial Mechanics), and Ross Colquhoun (Automobile Technology).
TAFE NSW also supported Experts, which included David Baldwin (Industrial Mechanics), David Berger (Floristry), Donna Demaria (Hairdressing), Allen Hill (Carpentry), Anne MacLeod (Health and Social Care), Ianthe Smith (Cookery), Kirk Trease (Automobile Technology), and Naomi Zadow (Beauty Therapy).
Congratulations to Harrison Field on securing a Bronze medal in Welding, Ross Colquhoun who was awarded the Best Of Nation and to the 4 NSW Medallions for Excellence recipients.

Empowering Skills Excellence
The National Championships and Skills Show is Australia’s biggest vocational education and excellence competition. Over three day selected Regional competitors are flown from around the country to showcase and benchmark their skills on the national stage competing against their industry peers from around the country.
A WorldSkills Australia National Championship is about more than just discovering champions
It’s an opportunity to inspire Australia’s youth to explore skills and trades while fostering a culture of excellence. It also strengthens industry and community by creating a space for collaboration and engagement.
As Australia’s largest skills event, the championships offer a dynamic, interactive experience for apprentices, trainees, students, and their families, as well as industry leaders and employer groups.
Attendees can witness a wide range of skilled trade and technology careers in action. They’ll have the chance to participate in Try’aSkill activities and network with hundreds of industry and education professionals—all under one roof.
