The Wall & Ceiling Institute will be at the 2023 WorldSkills Career Expo showcasing the Plastering and Painting and Decorating trades!
Have you ever asked how the internal frame of a house is lined and painted and become your pride and joy for many years to come? It is the plastering and painting and decorating trades who carry out this work.
Plasterers install the plasterboard, fill the joints with compounds and finish the wall and ceiling junction with a cornice, the Painter will paint the walls and ceilings or apply wallpaper to the walls.
The plastering and ceiling services industry is forecast to increase at an annualised 2.0%, climbing to $7.4 billion in 2028 (IBIS World, 2022). These figures show that companies and contractors will require more apprentices to strengthen their workforce.
So, if you want to build a career that promises good money, interesting work, and opportunities, come to our booth, and grab your firsthand experience with wall and ceiling trades.
Rewards of being a plastering apprentice (Plasterer, Your career):
- Balancing both outdoor and indoor working environments.
- Make good money.
- Victorian Government funded (check your eligibility).
- Great team
- Once finished the apprenticeship, apprentices can start their own businesses.

Axalta Supports Competitors in lead up to Nationals
Axalta provides training support to Automotive Refinishing competitors in the lead up to the WorldSkills Australia National Championships in Melbourne.
Long-term sponsor, Axalta Coating Systems is excited to continue its training supportfor Automotive Refinishing competitors in the lead up to the WorldSkills Australia National Championships.
Prior to the competition, the nine regional finalists are each given the opportunity to spend time with Axalta trainers, honing their spray-painting skills using Axalta’s products that will be used in the competition.
Most recently Mark Latham, Axalta’s NSW Product & Training Specialist, hosted four of the finalists for an intensive training program at their regional training centre in Marsden Park, Sydney.
During their training, NSW competitors Nickolas Abela, Lachlan Argent, Kynan Bonanno, and Neha Singh immersed themselves in the intricacies of Standoblue waterborne basecoat. They progressed from mastering fundamental application and blending techniques to advanced processes like 3-layer pearl application and 2-tone effects. Moreover, they received comprehensive guidance on colour matching, plastic repairs and how to apply the new mattclear to match the latest trends in matt clear finishes. The training proved to be both enjoyable and challenging, pushing the participants to excel under pressure.
As the competition approaches, Axalta extends their best wishes to all the talented apprentices participating in the Nationals. If their dedication and expertise are anything to go by, the future of skilled spray painting is in safe hands.
Read more about the competitors in ‘Gearing Up For Melbourne 2023’ (Page 16) in the latest issue of Axalta’s customer magazine, The Ultimate Finish Magazine: TUF Magazine_Issue35
