Regionals Have Officially Started!
The search for Australia’s most skilled apprentices, trainees, and students has commenced, with around 5,000 young entrants set to participate in the Nation’s largest skills excellence program, the WorldSkills Australia 2024 Regional Competitions. The nine-month long program started on Wednesday, February 7, with a Jewellery competition at TAFE Queensland’s Southbank campus and a Plumbing & Heating Competition at TAFE Queensland’s Nambour campus. Competitors are vying for the opportunity to represent their state at the WorldSkills Australia National Championships in 2025.
It was an exciting Regional Launch at TAFE Queensland on Wednesday 7th February where WSA guests and partners gathered to support competitors of the Jewellery skill category.
Guests including Kieran Benfield Executive Director from the Queensland Government, General Manager of TAFE Queensland, Brent Kinnane, and State managers gathered for a tour of the competition followed by morning tea.
A Q&A with Skillaroos Elliana McCrae and Sari Conte provided insight into the impact of WSA on their ambition to be leaders in their skill and guests were inspired by their determination and focus in preparation for the International competition in Lyon 2024.
The day concluded with acknowledgement of our key partner Reece, and valued supporter Palloys who have contributed significantly to bringing WSA competitions to life and enabling competitors the opportunity to take centre stage with their skill category.
Overall, the regional launch was a success and we look forward to seeing how our competitors progress with their experts in the coming months.
The Plumbing & Heating Competition was a great success! Competitors had to complete a plumbing task which took the shape of Australia! A special thank you to TAFE Queensland for your hospitality in running our regional competitions.
‘It was a challenging but a rewarding day for all competitors involved, however it was a fun experience’ - Noah Reynolds, Senior Teacher at Tafe Queensland
Congratulations to the Plumbing & Heating medalists at the TAFE Queensland Nambour campus! It is such a fantastic achievement to take part and win a medal at a Regional level.

One School One Country
WorldSkills Australia had the privilege of meeting our designated "One School One Country" partner at the official launch of the OSOC initiative. Welcomed by the School Director, we were also introduced to two students, Justine and Samuel, chosen by their classmates from year nine to represent them at the launch. Following the event, as the school is nearby, we were graciously invited to visit their campus and meet with their faculty.
Over the course of the next eight months, we will maintain regular communication with the school as they familiarise themselves with our team, the Skillaroos, our skills, and Australia as a whole. Subsequently, our Skillaroos will reciprocate the gesture by visiting their school, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
Our partner school, College Vendome, has approximately 800 students spanning from year 8 to year 12. We look forward to documenting our journey together, from the launch to our school visit, and the eventual triumphs at the WSC2024, capturing the essence of this remarkable collaboration.
State Training Awards Nominations Now OPEN!
The 2024 Training Award process has commenced with multiple states opening their nomination process. This is a great way for people within the VET system to be recognised within their state and nationally.
The Awards recognise and celebrate excellence and are an important mechanism for promoting the benefits of VET.
Winners from each state and territory training awards compete for a national award title. Direct entry is also available for some award categories.
This has led to Australia-wide awareness and respect for skill-based careers and skills excellence.
